I am a naturally intuitive and highly skilled Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with over 17 years' experience working with adults towards positive mental health. Combining evidence-based methods and a varied skill set, I work collaboratively with individuals to help them understand their difficulties and effectively overcome them, learning how to remain self-aware and self-manage moving forward from sessions. My experience has been gained in NHS primary and secondary care and institutional settings within the UK, providing intensive therapeutic support to adults with complex and multiple health and social needs within custodial environments and within the community.
I am a warm, empathic therapist who enjoys working with individuals holistically and collaboratively to help them overcome mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and work-related stress. I am experienced in supporting individuals with long term persistent and distressing health conditions, including management of chronic pain and fatigue. What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) recommended treatment. This works on the idea that the way we think and behave determines the way we feel. Life is busy and we tend to pass through on auto pilot trying to juggle a number of different roles. CBT can help us to identify unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour, modifying them to help us feel happier and more relaxed, empowering us to take control of our own lives and feel more fulfilled within ourselves; living truer to our values, being the person we want to be and living the life we want. Often we go through traumatic things in our life and CBT can help us to process what has happened and to change the way we respond in the present to help us reclaim our lives.
How does it work?
CBT is recommended by NICE for treatment of anxiety disorders and depression. It is by no means a 'quick fix' and will require hard work during and between sessions, it relies on making life changes, so our therapy does not stop in the weekly session, we will work together to identify the changes that you would like to make, and help you to put them into practice by testing them out in between our sessions.
Together we will help you to decide which areas you would like to work on, focus on building resilience, learn how to manage emotions, and create a plan for moving forward at the end of treatment.
All sessions will take place at a mutually convenient, pre-booked time during an allotted time slot.
